basement reno is getting into the final stages....and today they started on the part I'm looking forward too the most

it's not the tricked out gym, the awesome new bathroom, the epic laundry area, the beautiful variety of floors (wood, tile and rubber), the clean and finished storage rooms, or the 37 new lights versus the 5 I had previously

nope.....it's the basement staircase

a 17 year old eyesore that had the only strip of carpet in the house laid over 57 year old low-grade stairs..... with walls that only got a coat of paint in 2011 when we were painting the enire mainfloor

new oak stair treads and landing stained to match the dark mainfloor hardwood....white risers, white stringers and 40" tall beadboard style tonque-and-groove wainscoting lining the lower walls

big buckos into a tiny space but it's gonna tak ethe whole house up a serious notch

and I won't have to vacuum that shitty carpet anymore

I had printed out the two links of the products I wanted (3 shelves and 2 hanging racks)....had them in hand when I walked in

zipped up the stairs into the maze....saw an employee right away....showed him the pics and said where are they?....he told me the shelves were just around the bend....so I bolted, found them right away

there was another employee right near the shelves so I showed her the pic of the hanging rack...said where is this?....she told me where it was and I bolted again....found the rack in no time

there was another employee near the hanging racks so I said....how do I get the area where I actually buy stuff? and she showed me the way

when I got into the section with the massive aisles jammed with all the shit in boxes I saw another employee at a desk with a computer....handed her the pics and said where do I find these?

she spent less than a minute inputting the codes and wrote the aisle #s on each pic

grabbed a cart and zipped over to the 2 aisles and found the stuff pretty quick and loaded it

wheeled over to the checkout where only one cash was open but nobody in line

in and out in 14 minutes

at that time of the morning.....the place was empty besides employees

freaked the wife out.....I left the house at 845am...and was back at 945am with the Ikea load and 2 cases of beer

So. I haven't been feeling right since February. Been to the clinic twice and was turned away diagnosed with a "virus" and told to just take some cold meds to treat the symptoms and just ride it out.

So I finally cave after feeling really horrible again since the BBQ and went back to the clinic.

Well it turns out I've had a lung/sinus infection since fucking February. They gave me some real meds. Should be cleared up in 5 days. Unbelievable

my basement staircase was basically finished yesterday....just paint on wainscoting and upper walls to do now

all the oak treads and landings are stained and cleared....risers and stringers all painted

it looks phucking fantastic and we matched the colour to my mainfloor hardwood right on the money

it was covered up today....cause tomorrow they're delivering the new washer and dryer

it's a tight mutherphucker getting these appliances in and out......and now they gotta go easy on the floor/steps to boot

Yeah really should have moved the heavy stuff before having the stairs finished.
What did you cover them with? We use runner mats with a rubber base. I won't let my guys use anything else. Blankets and cardboard slides and is an accident waiting to happen. Especially with a front load washer. They are not light. Best of luck. Hope it goes smooth.

final paint happening in the gym yesterday as well.....room is looking epic.....rubber floor is grey and black....we ran a 48" chair rail around the room....painted a silver-grey colour below the chair rail (that's a near perfect match to the grey in the floor)....painted white above the chair rail....but for the ceiling....we're doing the same silver-grey as we've got on the lower walls......wife wasn't a fan of my choice for matching the ceiling with the lower walls....until she saw the final results.....room has come a long way from 1974 paneling and ratty beige carpet

next week....my equipment goes back together....and the plan is 4 days on....one day off for another 29 years

You will likely want the C6 after driving it. I couldn't justify dropping decent coin on a car that would sit most of the time otherwise it would have been my first choice.
