600 tonnes....or 1,322,772 lbs
arm easily reached up over a 350 ft building and plucked the crane off the roof
was told the rig goes for around $6,000,000
took a full day to assemble, with all the counter-weights and arm pieces being brought in on many 18-wheeler flat beds
took a full day to measure 195,000 times and pluck the crane off the roof on the first haul
taking a full day to disassemble
I believe the 3-day job cost in the neighbourhood of $150,000.....hard set-up and take down cost plus $1000/hour on site....as well as a dozen paid duty officers blocking the streets off and all that extra shit
it is something to see live
Hard to imagine it could be that huge and weigh that much but can be transported to a new site.

Holy crap!
Hard to imagine it could be that huge and weigh that much but can be transported to a new site.
the crane literally assembles and disassembles itself....with a little help from a smaller crane truck
not sure how much weight it loses when the counterweights and arm are removed but it would be significant
once its back to a rolling rig....it's big, long, has 16 very large wheels and doesn't corner very well
Must have been cool seeing it erected then pulled back down.
Must have been cool seeing it erected then pulled back down.
most impressive thing is seeing it all happening in a narrow concrete canyon.....and not one broken window
No matter the job, pro's, real pro's, always make it look easy.

It's part of the foreman training. If something happens to the crane operator they have to be able to get him down.
had the same problem with the VW that we had 2 weeks ago....key would not go into the ignition
wife pulled up into the driveway....yanked the key and the radio stayed on....couldn't lock the car and tried the key and wouldn't go back in
called CAA (since I'm now a member)....and this time he couldn't fix it....said to call a tow and left
came inside and googled
apparently a common problem...so followed the interweb's advice
grabbed a tiny flat-head screwdriver with a magnifying glass....and my trusty can of Jig-a-loo Super-grease and within 2 minutes I got the key back in
will be at VW first thing in the morning.....minor fix apparently....shitty little piece of faulty plastic
pain in the ass...but my wife was pretty impressed that I fixed what the CAA guy gave up on....so chalking it up as a good deal
Nicely done.
fixed
mechanic at VW has seen it many times...debris gets in and jams the little spring-loaded plastic thing
had to take apart the ignition cylinder....clean it, lubricate it and put it back in
$70 and I'm back at the house at 9am
not bad I guess

Drove all the way to orrillia today (3.5 hour drive for me) to look at a tractor with a loader and back hoe.
Well guy said runs good hydrolics are good. But the rear casing is cracked.
Well I forgot to translate the kijiji speak. Turns out. It wouldn't start. The hydrolics were shot and not only was the rear end casing cracked but the whole one side of the back hoe frame attachment was sheared in two. Re welded. Broke again and then chained together to stop it from falling off.
Then we stopped at bass pro on the way home and it was closed from a fire. What a waisted day

Factory pipe is H but I know where your coming from. I had a chance to buy the Xpipe really cheap so I jumped on it. Won't be doing LT's this year and I can always sell the Xpipe down the road for what I paid for it once I get to that road.

Ok did 2 oil changes this morning. The Hondas last change was at mr.lube and i didn't have any issues with the change.
the mustangs last change was at the dealership, I needed to use my 1/2" ratchet to get the plug off, it was pretty damn tight and the head was rounded off to make it worse. I bought a new drain plug. The oil filter was pretty fucking tight on there too. Plus I noticed all the oil and grime on the wires leading into the steering below the oil filter, so cleaned that. I used a piece of plastic to make a shield to prevent oil from dripping on shit.
Glad I do my own small maintenance shit.

To be fair, our western mass production farms don't treat our animals with respect either.
Not really a fair comparison actually. You can't compare - it's flawed logic. I agree there are problems that need to be fixed in the process here and some companies are responding to it (eg. after Lino Saputo saw MFA's undercover footage of practices at one of their supplier farms he implemented changes to where/how they source raw dairy products from suppliers and inspection processes - I believe he also dropped that supplier which can be catastrophic in terms of that supplier's ability to stay in business; Saputo is one of top 3 dairy product producers in Canada and a publicly traded company; the workers at that dairy farm were also fired and charged with cruelty and abuse - which I think should and will eventually extend to management and owners).
We also do have animal welfare laws that while archaic by today's standards and almost 100 years old in some cases, does require stunning, prescribes fast methods of killing, etc before killing (so we can't beat a cow on the head with a sledgehammer repeatedly until it dies a slow agonizing death, or beat dogs on the head with pipes and leave them writhing/convulsing on the floor for a while before boiling them while they are still alive).
Asia does not have any of this, no inspection, and also believe that torturing dogs before killing them to eat make them taste better. They like to boil dogs alive as well because of the believe it make them taste better. Not sure why they still have these twisted beliefs that savage cruelty is good or acceptable - I mean they do use other modern technology.
Do you know anyone who believes torturing animals here makes the meat you eat every day taste better? There is no scientific basis for this belief. Animals are skinned while still alive in many cases. It would also be illegal here to do that (only situation where I think this can happen here and needs to be stopped is the Canadian seal hunt which is basically a jobs program for the Atlantic because it has to be subsidized by Canadian taxpayers since it costs more than it generates in revenue).

The exact opposite in fact. The adrenelin released makes the meat very tough. It's why the gates and chutes are designed as to not freak out the animals when being lead to slaughter.
We had one steer that went berserk at auction. Nothing we could do about it, but we ended up having to keep it ourselves. It was the toughest meat ever, the roasts were almost unbearable.

That is correct - the hormones released due to a fear/fright reaction and can act like poison in the flesh/meat. It's the same messed up superstition that drives belief that bear bile (extracted from live bears), shark fins, crushed tiger bones and elephant/rhino tusks can fix impotence or have other health benefits (which of course if not true).

That said, a Lobster probably doesn't have much fun either on it's way to the table.
I personally don't eat lobster because of this. Same with veal between the cruelty and the poisonous meat from modern veal farming.

Get what your putting down Chris (animal lover here as well, felt ill seeing that) but in the same breath not discounting the message Richards conveying.
Disclaimer for pics like that would be appreciated by me as well.

I understand the message and Richard is a stronger man than I am to be able to read and post such tragedies, but those are not images one should come across by surprise. They are very, very upsetting. I don't mean to sound all full of drama, but seriously, a link next time please.

Almost mowed over this little guy yesterday and wasn't 100% sure what to do Then I read online that it's normal to see this, the mother should be hovering around protecting it. I checked and sure enough momma bird was watching me so I put the baby in the bushes... Checked in the evening and baby bird was all safe and sound.

“Protracer is vision-based, so it sees the ball at impact and it traces the ball’s path,” Berntsen said. “There’s no instrumentation. If it was an instrumented system with radar, if you moved the camera, you’d have to recalibrate every time. But if you move the camera and it’s vision-based, as long as it sees the ball, it works.”
Just software and graphics I guess.

Didn't mean to offend anyone's sensitivities and would usually post a link or video that you have to click on to see the content (although I think some auto play when you hover over the embedded item) but just posted the pics in response to a comment directly from my folder in photobucket (4th link down - img link I think). In 20 years of working on animal welfare/abuse advocacy this is not the worst I've seen and there are things that surprise me every day that I am not sure I could post unless it's to an audience that cares and are working on the issues. The good thing is that change is slowly coming and more severe/appropriate punishments are being doled out (in most cases, although the Republican/Conservative push for Ag-Gag laws is disturbing because to me the cloaking and protection of abuse and cruelty is contradictory to the Christian beliefs purportedly held by these groups).
I agree this stuff is hard to look at but it is the reality of what millions endure and the only way to stop/change it (as with anything else including abuse/killing of people) is for some to not turn away/ignore it, and try to effect change. Sometimes it takes a long time but change does come - phasing out of gestation crates in several markets, partial move away from some of the cruelest aspects of veal farming, reduction of baby seals killed in the taxpayer funded money losing annual seal hunt, stronger penalties for animal abuse, neglect, and cruelty (which is tied to escalation of violence to humans and may reside on your street and interact with your children), etc, etc. Most Asian/Middle Eastern countries do not have animal welfare laws so part of the effort now is to apply pressure to bring these in as a starting point.
The funny thing is that for all the things millenials get criticized for, this is one of the areas that they may actually help to effect change as they appear to react to these images/news stories and actually change their behaviour/consumption habits that is impacting market forces to respond where the boomers, Gen X & Y didn't as much (from less to more).
Will do warnings/links next time if any of these types of things are posted.

I was thinking the same as the hockey puck too, but IIRC it has a chip in the puck, but the players choose the balls so this couldn't be the case. Pretty amazing that the camera can track the ball nearly to the landing point!

Well this was an interesting day. Get to work at 8:00 and two hours later get a call from my daughter's school that she hit her head on a door and is bleeding. Rush to the school, yup she has a cut on her head. Off to our family doctor, but he's away, so off to Headwaters in Orangeville. Emergency room is quite busy so we wait. About two hours later we are in to see the doc. Yup, mild concussion and a small cut that needed two staples. Home now and the freezing for the staples is starting to wear off. I just glad it was nothing too serious.

A little tip for when the freezing is gone. Fill a zip-lock bag with cold water and a few ice cubes, get as much of the air out as possible and seal it. Us this as a cold compress. It will be really cold, but not as cold as applying ice directly, but it is also soft and flexible so more comfortable.

that's punishing responsible gun owners, same with banning gun sales, criminals don't buy and register firearms (canada or the states) most guys aren't even stealing them from homeowners they are trafficked from overseas etc
hell we'd be safer if everyone had one vs only the bad guys as no matter what laws you pass you will not change the number of guns on the street.

Are there are fun tablet games that don't end up costing you an arm and a leg after the first few hours of gameplay? I was home with my son after his surgery for a few days so I tried out WGT on my tablet. It's a pretty cool golf game, great graphics, good gameplay without any gimmicks or acrade crap. I earned some credits in the first hours and upgraded my clubs and putter and whatever. But now, after a couple of days of playing (and the typical gaming addiction kicking in), the credits have nearly entirely dried up, and it'll start costing me real cash (on a credit card) to buy balls every few rounds!! Something like $10 every few games! I won't even spend that on golf balls in real life! pisses me right off that you just can't have a little fun without paying for it.

The year with timing chain problems :/ 2002. But low miles, no rust.. all seems to be working but the e-brake (cable rusted or something I suspect). I may put in the exploder rear-end with disc brakes... if the truck isn't a total POS... I may make something of it.
70% decided on selling the 2011 Mustang, not because I want to or need to but such a car sitting in the garage makes me feel bad, I could put that money (roughly 25k) towards my kid's education instead of it depreciating in the garage. I may buy a cheaper fun toy or just stick to trucks as "toy" and buy a 4 banger Elantra or something for commute. Dunno... having an internal crises thinking about all of this. I'm too stupid to think it's okay for someone to ding my nice car doors so I'm too scared to drive the damn car. With an old POS truck, I won't care... Actually it looks cooler to me when completely covered in mud. A Hyundai, I won't care either.

Greece in shock as banks shut after snap referendum call

ATHENS (Reuters) - Stunned Greeks faced shuttered banks, long supermarkets lines and overwhelming uncertainty on Monday as a breakdown in talks between Athens and its international creditors plunged the country deep into crisis.
With Greece's bailout expiring on June 30 and an IMF payment falling due at the same time, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras pleaded by phone with European officials to extend the programme until a referendum on Sunday on its future terms.
The frantic efforts to secure Greece's place within the euro zone followed a dramatic weekend. Tsipras's decision, early on Saturday, to put the aid package to a popular vote took the lenders and some of Tsipras's own negotiating team by surprise.
It also pushed Greece towards defaulting on 1.6 billion euros ($1.77 billion) due to the International Monetary Fund on Tuesday.
Greeks - used to lengthy talks with creditors before an eleventh-hour deal - were left shocked by the turn of events. Lines snaked outside ATMs and inside supermarkets while fears of disruptions to petrol and medicine supplies grew.
The breakdown has pushed the European Union and euro zone into uncharted terrain. Financial markets reacted badly on Monday, with European bank shares down sharply on worries of contagion within the financial system.
"I can't believe it," said Athens resident Evgenia Gekou, 50, on her way to work. "I keep thinking we will wake up tomorrow and everything will be OK. I'm trying hard not to worry."
After months of talks, Greece's exasperated European partners have put the blame for the crisis squarely on Tsipras for rejecting a package they consider generous. The Greek side says further austerity would simply deepen one of the worst economic crises of modern times in a country where a quarter of the workforce is already unemployed.
PERSONAL BETRAYAL
Emotions were unusually raw among Europe's leaders. EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said he felt personally betrayed and told Greeks a "no" vote would point to a euro exit.
"I will say to the Greeks who I love deeply: you mustn't commit suicide because you are afraid of death," he told a news conference.
French President Francois Hollande appealed to Tsipras to return to the negotiating table and German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she was willing to talk to the Greek leader if he wanted.
The Greek government will keep banks shut at least until after July 5, the date of the referendum, and withdrawals from automated teller machines were limited to 60 euros a day when they reopened at midday. The stock exchange will also stay shut.
The creditors wanted Greece to cut pensions and raise taxes in ways that Tsipras has long argued would be counter-productive.
As Tsipras announced the closure of banks and the stock exchange late on Sunday, there were long queues outside ATMs and petrol stations as people raced to take out cash before it was too late. Lines formed at ATMs when they reopened on Monday.
"I've got five euros in my pocket, I thought I would try my luck here for some money. The queues in my neighbourhood were too long yesterday," said plumber Yannis Kalaizakis, 58, outside an empty cash machine in central Athens on Monday.
"I don't know what else to say. It's a mess."
"DRAMATIC HOURS"
As rumours flew, dozens of pensioners queued outside at least two offices of the National Bank of Greece on Monday after hearing they could withdraw pensions from some branches. They were turned away, Reuters photographers said.
"I've worked all my life, only to wake up one morning to a disaster like this," said one shop owner, who was there to collect his wife's pension.
Despite the financial shock, parts of daily life went on as normal, with shops, pharmacies and supermarkets in the city opening and Greeks meeting to discuss their country's fate at cafes and restaurants. Tourists gathered as usual to watch the changing of the presidential guard outside parliament.
A rally called by Tsipras's Syriza party to protest against austerity measures and urge voters to say "No" in the referendum on bailout terms is expected later on Monday.
The referendum poses a simple question: "Should the proposal which was submitted by the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund at the Eurogroup of June 25, 2015 which consists of two parts that together consist of their comprehensive proposal be accepted?
The "No" box appears as the first option on top of the "Yes" box below. The government has urged Greeks to vote "no", which it says will strengthen its hand at the negotiating table though analysts say that it will instead push Greece out of the euro.
The Economist Intelligence Unit predicted a no vote was more likely, raising the odds of a "Grexit to 60 percent.

I was reading some of the news over lunch and came across this headline:
Jared Fogle and Subway part ways amid child porn inquiry
My initial reaction was WTF? And had I just walked away having only read the headline I would have the impression good old Jared is a sicko!
Is it just me? Am I just misinterpreting the headline? Or does it not imply that Jared is a child pornagrapher?
The rest of the story goes on to explain that it's one of his employees under investigation.

Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches Are Now…. RACIST?
With so many sensitive “politically correct” problems now, we’re now living in a society where even FOOD can be deemed racist. I’m not kidding!
Principal Verenice Guiterrez, who certainly voted for Obama, runs the Harvey Scott School (K-8) in Portland, Oregon. And she has made an announcement that peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are racist!
Why? Because, as Principal Guiterrez explained, this effort was made to, “improve education for students of color.” She noted that some students – such as those from Mexico or Somalia – haven’t eaten bread in their culture. Instead, they eat pitas, tortas, and other bread substitutes.
Therefore, the serving of delicious PB&Js is a brazen display of white privilege. The Principal wants to cancel out this supposed racial privilege and “change their teaching practices to boost minority students’ performance.”
How is this possible? Food can’t make racial comments… And a sandwich can’t even watch The Dukes of Hazzard. It is two slices of bread, with your favorite jelly and crunchy or creamy peanut butter. Most children think they are delicious, and I bet you probably still eat them.
They are nutritious, full of energy, and are cheap. That’s why millions of people eat PB&Js every day!
I wonder if I should rush to the store and buy whole grain wheat bread. Perhaps that would boost my kitchen’s racial diversity?
This has gone too far. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are not racist and children should be allowed to eat them.
Do you enjoy PB&Js? Please leave us a comment and tell us what you think.
and to think they left out the part about peanuts now being considered a deadly weapon.

Ok so, no tune-up done on the Ranger, 4x4 4.0L with 3.73 gears, stepside truck with ext cab MPG?
First test I did 12L/100km, now I just tested as 13L/100km. I take the 401 in the morning for 50+km, and HWY 7 in the afternoon which takes anywhere from one hour to two hours on my way back home. AC on, heavy traffic. Light foot though. I'll know for sure once the scanguage comes in but I know I won't deviate that far from my measurements, can't go from 13 to 20 LOL.
I'm pretty happy so my goal "may" be doable. Electric fan, synthetic fluids everywhere, tune-up, and driving behavior changes I believe I can do better. Goal is around 9L/100km but I'm okay with 10 which is around 23MPG me thinks. Then lift and larger tires and I'm back to 13 or more lol.

About a month ago I called the local Home Depot (about a 45min drive for me) about renting a little tractor with a loader and back hoe attachment. For doing my pond and patio. The confirmed they had one available. I asked hitch size and weight so i would know to bring the suv or the work truck They said class three so no worries brot the suv. Show up and find out. Sorry we were wrong it's a class 4 and won't fit on the suv. Guys says. Sorry. I can rent you the mini excavator which is a class three. I said that will dig my pond but won't clear the dirt for the patio. Guy says tell you what rent the excavator this weekend. And when you go to do the patio later. I'll give you a deal on the rental of our mini loader. It's reg. 249 per day but I'll give you a deal on it.
I said I was hoping to do it all this weekend but fine. That works.
Well Friday I went back to rent the mini loader. Again call ahead. And say. I know the tractor needs a class 4. But what hitch is on the mini loader. Guy says class three. I say fine. Drive the 45 min with my SUV. Guess what. Last week they got a new mini loader. Old one needed class three New one is a class 4. I say you got to be kidding me.
Check trailer weight and loader weight. Turns out both are just under the weight limit of the SUV. But the tongue height is too high. So talk it over with the guy he don't care so I buy a taller receiver. He does up the rental contract. I said the last guy told me id get a deal. He said yep no problem. But this is just the contract. We will do the pricing when you bring it back.
Use the loader all weekend. Works great. Take it back today. Show up on time for return.
Guy at counter won't give me a deal. He calls manager. Manager says sorry I can't give you a deal. We just rent them for someone else. I say well your guy said he would cut me a deal. You guys have waisted my time more than once.
He says. "I don't have time to deal with this right now. I'll call you tomorow. Pay the bill and then I'll see what I can do Tomorow
This whole thing takes about 45 min
So I pay the bill. Not only did they not give me a deal like they said they would. But the old loader price he quoted me was 249 per day. But the new loader price they charged me was 299 per day. Then he charged me for the damage protection that I told him I didn't want. Then he charged me over time for the 45 min they spent dicking me around.
And I've been told I give bad customer service.
Fucking nuts.
Id talk to the store manager, then if that gets you no where call head office! That's ridiculous.

Got a call back from them today. Store manager was too busy apparently so he rental guy called. They credited me back for the 45min charge and knocked 100 bucks off the rental.
He gave me som greef commenting how I should have known that any trailer with tandem axels would require a class 4 hitch. And I should have just known to bring the truck and not the suv.
I told him don't bullshit me I own 4 trailers. Hitch class is all about weight not the number of axles. Of course how was I to know the size of the trailer being as I was driving in from out of town...... Oh wait that's right I called ahead and I asked the guy at the store and he told me the wrong size. Clearly that's my fault for assuming that hey would know what they were renting

only thing I could do to try and alleviate the pain was to hang on the chin-up bar with varying grips to try and stretch it out...nearly every day
didn't miss any workouts....but heavy shrugs were a no go....and having a constant pain in the middle of my back is just fucking annoying
and my trusty tube of Myoflex Maximum strength was useless....cause I couldn't reach the damn spot
thanks to her little hands and my now very useful tube of Myoflex...the pain is almost gone
Not quite the same thing but I can't sleep at night unless Michaela gives me a little back scratch lol.
Glad to hear everything getting better for both of you[emoji106]🏻

Gutted the trunk - just the panels and battery box staying. Need to clean up the waxy undercoating then going to spray it black.
Total was -41 lbs
I finished up the trunk and painted it black, but removing that waxy undercoating was a pita even with paint thinner.

I understand that to remove that waxy undercoating simply heat it up with a heat gun or torch and it wipes right off.
