A Canadian man has been found beaten to death on a beach at the Mexican resort of Los Cabos.

Prosecutors in the state of Baja California Sur say the 50-year-old man appears to have been beaten with a blunt object. The state prosecutors’ office said Wednesday that the cause of death was severe head trauma and a skull fracture.

Provincial police say it appears that speed was a factor in the truck rollover at the 401/404 Monday afternoon that closed the 401 for hours during the drive home.

Quinn, I flew with spirit once to Myrtle Beach, they fly out of Niagara Airport not Buffalo and parking is less than $50 for the week. I will warn you they are bare bones basic cheapest shit in the sky, imagine american airlines economy and then add in another 30% more seats so your knees are touching your chin. For a flight to vegas I would go with something better.


In other news, I had a phone interview with Evertz today and it went well, I am excited to see what happens, they called about one position and by the end I had talked my way into some higher positions, I hope to hear back next week.

just got back from a North York Commitee of Adjustment Meeting I attended to voice concerns about an application for a new house build next door....I got the invite because the builder had applied for approval for a number of variances....pretty typical stuff....wants to go a bit longer and higher etc......nothing new around here...plenty of new builds have done the same

it's the old North York City Council auditorium....there's like 100 people there....mics and podiums and all that formal shit

builder didn't show and simply sent a note asking for deferral......but since I showed up...REQUEST DENIED

so...then they gave me the podium to voice my concerns.....I had 3

1) concern over a tree to be properly removed and not hacked creating a hazzard - was told that the concern was noted but that is not the responsibility of this commitee....that's Urban Forestry
2) concern over a window placement for privacy reasons - was told that it was also noted but that is the responsibility of the Bulding Commitee
3) concern about timing "so I can put up a temporary fence to keep contractors off my nice clean property :so they don't use it as a floor mat and a garbage can" - was told that it was noted as well......but.....that again is the responsibility of the Building Commitee

A Canadian antiques dealer was sentenced to two and a half years in a U.S. prison on Wednesday for trying to export black rhinoceros horns that he purchased in New York from undercover U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agents.

The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain in Manhattan, was significantly more than the 10 months of time served sought by attorneys for Xiao Ju “Tony” Guan, but a modest reduction from the three years and one month called for by prosecutors and federal sentencing guidelines.

Guan, speaking through a Mandarin interpreter just before being sentenced, pleaded for lenience, saying he had already lost his business and was cut off from his family in the Canadian province of British Columbia.

“I will never make the same mistake again,” he said.

Swain said she had considered Guan’s apparent remorse, as well as the “increased harshness” of the time he has already served in New York, where he is unable to communicate with guards or other inmates because of his language barrier. She recommended he be transferred to a U.S. prison near British Columbia so that his family can visit him.

However, Swain said a lengthy custodial sentence was warranted by the seriousness of his crime.

“There is a significant crisis situation of endangered species poaching,” she said, adding that Guan “helped feed a hot market for these goods.”

Guan pleaded guilty to attempted smuggling in November.

He was arrested in March after flying to New York to buy two black rhinoceros horns for $45,000 from undercover Fish and Wildlife special agents, and then arranging to ship them to Point Roberts, Washington, near the Canadian border.

Guan labeled a box containing the horns as “handicrafts” worth just $200.

He was indicted in July and charged with conspiracy to smuggle rhino horns and sculptures made from elephant ivory and coral from various U.S. auction houses to Canada. He pleaded guilty only to trying to smuggle the rhino horns.

Though the conspiracy charge was dropped, Swain ruled that Guan’s admitted enlistment of others in his operation, including his nephew, warranted a longer sentence under the federal sentencing guidelines.

Apparently a pass out/heart attack would not override the system and safeguards and cause a dive like this (only in the movies when the fall on the controls), and the doors have a timer but the timer can be reset from inside the cockpit to keep extending the time.

I put off my wisdom teeth for years. Hopefully yours come out easier than mine did. My top left formed the floor of my sinus. When it got yanked it took out the wall between my mouth and sinus. Needed surgery to have it fixed and some gum tissue removed and transplanted to help skin over the collagen plate.

Even with everything going wrong I'm still glad I did it. Now I'm just waiting for my sockets to close up lol.

I did the same thing also! Used to hate dentists so put it off for years. Wisdoms grew in and they were so soft the center of them rotted out leaving holes. Eventually found a dentist who made me feel somewhat comfortable in the chair and had them yanked. He basically said they fell apart and I was off only one day for the procedure. I was also out during it too so didn't have to hear any drilling and hammering! Lol
it did however spread some cavities to the molars in front of them so I ended up getting lots of repair work done the months after that.

No, the cavities were from the holes in the wisdoms. The holes went through the front of the wisdoms too so any food that was jammed into the wisdoms went through the holes to the molars in front of them. It couldn't be removed with floss or get all of it with a brush. Over time it did a number on my back molars. Luckily the dentist was able to repair them and I take much better care of them now that my dentist anxieties are much better. Lol

Ok that's a little more in depth. First post was a little vague. I interpreted it as you thought the wisdoms spread cavities into your molars. That's not how cavities work, They aren't infectious lol. But yeah what you said has happened to me as well.

My Bottom left will need some work soon. Just building up the courage to go back after my experience is a little difficult that's all. I also need to have some bone spurs removed from my gums.

Uggh, wife's Mini was blowing white (blue?) smoke on the way home from Barrie this weekend.
Turned up the hill at Green Line, and the car kinda shuddered/hesitated going up the hill. Seemed to clear up and drive fine the rest of the way across Newmarket. Then, when getting on the 404, it smoked like crazy when I got on it to get up to highway speed. Let off, and it drove fine the rest of the way home. Oil and temp were fine, and no codes.

The developers, German technology firm Festo, say it's not just the unusual anatomy of real-world ants that inspired the bionic version - the collective intelligence of an ant colony was also something they wanted to replicate.




The bionic ants cooperate and coordinate their actions and movements to achieve a common aim - in the same way individual ants complete tasks for the whole colony. Festo says that in the future production systems will be based on intelligent individual components that adjust themselves to different production demands by communicating with each other.

The ants are able to complete complex tasks, like transporting large, heavy loads, that they wouldn't be able to achieve individually by working together.

The robot features a stereo camera and a floor sensor that together allow the ant to work out its location and identify objects to be grabbed by grippers at the front of its "head". The antennae double up as chargers for the lithium batteries that power the ants' movements. A radio module in the abdomen allows the ants to communicate with each other wirelessly. Just like their natural counterparts, the ants have six articulated legs.

Festo says the way the ants are constructed is unique too. The bodies of the bionic ants are made from a 3D printed plastic powder melted layer by layer with a laser. The circuitry is also 3D printed on top of the body. Festo says this is the first time the techniques have been combined.

The ceramic legs and pincers are flexible actuators that move quickly and precisely without using much energy. Again Festo says the application of this so-called 'piezo' technology to miniature robots like its bionic ants is a first.

The bionic ants are part of the developer's Bionic Learning Network. Festo works on transferring natural phenomena to engineering techniques and equipment.

The technology firm says the factories of the future will have to produce customized products, meaning that they will have to adapt to different production requirements.

Festo plans to exhibit its robotic ants in April at the world's biggest industrial technology fair, Hannover Messe, where the German engineering company will also show off other recent creations like cooperative artificial butterflies.
