Whatcha' using? Need a system for exterior use that I'd like to watch live while I'm here at my unit at night. Also like the ability to be notified on a cell of any DB's nosing around the area while not there. WiFi cams vs. hard wired cams? Actually hard wiring could pose a challenge. This is all new to me so be gentle:thx:

I watched that episode. You have to wonder how many people are in the same situation.

This is exactly why I chose to not plug mine into the modem.
I don't need to check up on them 24/7.. the hdd recording is enough for me.

Especially when these "connected" devices are so ubiquitous - they are sold like cans of soup in all the stores and there is no material on the packaging or education about securing the devices from intrusion/breach.

Alright reviving this thread. I'd like to set this up before the car comes out of storage.
Here is what I would like to have:
4 outdoor bullet style cameras (hardwired)
ability to record
ability to watch live while on premises via TV or monitor
ability to receive notifications to cell

You can get all you're asking for out of a cheap $250 system. What's your budget?
