Looking for a second set of wheels so I don’t need to rely on the work truck all the time.

Looking at something cheap to buy (under $5k). But like something different.

Looking at a 90 Jag that’s looks to be in good shape but I know parts might be pricy.

Anyone have expertise with Saab? Found a 2005 93 that don’t look too bad

By 2005 they were basically just a weird looking chef correct? Pros cons etc

Also wondering something like a mini. I know some had issues. Was the the supercharged ones or the turbo ones? Things to look out for.

Also open to other suggestions.

Debating on driving out to look at a mint 79 Lincoln mark V

Supercharged Mini's were part of the first gen Mini's R50/R52/R53 (Model year 2000-2006) and turbocharged Mini's are R56/R57. These were all the hatchback designations. The turbocharged versions are much more reliable than the first generation models.

Have you owned one? How are they for back seat and cargo space? I’ve driven one years ago and was supposed by the space in the drivers seat and the fun to drive factor appeals to me but I would need space for two kids and day trip type stuff (shopping bags etc)

My dad and I own a new one R56 JCW and it is great! Plenty of room for the day to day stuff for sure. For my detailing equipment it would be a definite no. The older model is definitely smaller and not recommended for what you want to do.

Older Mini and Jag I would stay away from, far away actually. The Saab is basically a GM and likely will have a 2.0/2.4 Ecotec engine, nice cars but if you need any body or interior parts it will be costly. The Lincoln sounds nice but I hope you have stock in an oil company.
To be honest if I was you I’d look for a first gen toaster Scion, tons of room, great on fuel and drive like a car.....of course they look goofy but that depends who you ask.

MarkV is in your screen name. The choice seems obvious.

Go grab the MK V, then swap in a 4.8 LS, will get good mileage, and be pretty cool.

cant be another project lol but cheap parts and easy to work on are definitely a plus but that could be over compensated by the gas usage pretty easily.

still trying to decide if I hate myself enough to finally buy an older Jag, always looked never pulled the trigger, gonna happen some day, today is not that day but who can say what tomorrow will bring. lol

Minis are junk.

There's a video series on Youtube about repairing one. Expensive and just poorly built.

Many may disagree but I think there are some interesting rides by Volvo from the mid 2000's that might fit the budget.

The S60 R is an example of an under appreciated model.

yeah been looking at some volvos. Had a 1999 S80 a few years back that we loved until in blew a turbo seal followed promptly by an end seal in the steering rack.

My 09 Ford Focus has been a great car.....but doesn't really fit your "something different" category. :)

I love my '06 S60R. Coming up on 10 year anniversary since I bought it and still love driving it everyday - now has 192,000 miles.

I have the same colour scheme and factory body kit (except I kept my rear spoiler and 18" factory Pegasus wheels) as this one but this guy painted his Brembos yellow and lowered his about ~1.5 inches.

Been sitting on this. And thinking it over. Looks like we might be hiring another service guy (young kid I can train)
So an extra vehicle for us would also come in handy to use as a part time service vehicle when needed until he is ready to be on the road full time solo.

So wanted something fun but also with some space for tools and stuff as well as good on gas.
Did some test drives. Test fit car seats and once the papers finalize will be driving home a 2014 Mini Clubman JCW edition. Black on black. 6 speed. 200hp.

For sure the SMALLEST think I have never owned. It surprisingly comfy and with the seats down. Room for tools and such.

Well a big congratulations to you my friend. Glad you went JCW. Great choice. So the Clubman worked for you? Any pictures?

no pics yet was dark when we were looking at it. the clubman offer just that extra bit of leg room for the kids and the extra cargo as well is a bonus. will mostly be just a run about. or something for the wife and I do take on your free time drives

also the kids were getting board so the one sales guy at the BMW dealer fired up an M3 in the show room for them. lol thing was worth more then what I originally paid for my house

well glad I took the chance and did some homework, turns out the car they advertised was not a John Works Edition. I asked about it and he said no its not, just a base, I said well the add said John works, and the price reflects a John Works. they offered to knock 1200 off but I said no thanks.

back on the hunt.

Help

So found two possible cars and the wife and a can’t decide. We had said we wanted a manual. If it’s small it has to be fun. But turns out mini JCW with a stick is super rare (Seems dumb)

And even the S isn’t easy to find. Given up on a club man. Can’t find one.

Two possable

One 2016 5 door cooper S
77000km. Light blue with black roof and mirrors. Pretty much loaded and has the manual. But it’s got a few small dings and scratches.

Other is a 2015 Cooper S. 45000km red and black
Also loaded including the JCW package (bumpers spoiler etc)
But it’s an auto.
Pretty much flawless no dents or dings to be seen.

The 15 is more money up front but has a better interest rate so payments are pretty much identical

So auto and wicked looking or plain looking and manual

Trust me the auto is a way better choice.

Just practicality or dependability? We live rural so running a clutch is city traffic will not be an everyday thing

For a 2016 i would say both practical and dependable.

thanks, my only real concern about the manual they said it need breaks all the way around which they are gonna do but it was in the show room so have not test driven it. if someone cooks the breaks in 70km one might assume the clutch might be needing the same

My Dad's 2013 minivan had 35,000 kms and brakes were done. So if his lasted to 70,000 kms?? Then again, he could have had a few brake jobs.

A guy on the Toronto Mini Club is selling this. Looks great. I think this maybe something to consider if you are looking for a Mini. It is a bigger vehicle than what you are looking for.
