View Full Version : Getting a Car back to Factory Tune with NO Hand Held to do so

Scenario:

Car that has smaller pulley and aftermarket CAI/MAF being sold by a dealer without the hand held tuner.

If the pulley and CAI/MAF factory units are re-installed, is there any way to get the car ECM set back to the factory setting?

If the car was to be purchased as is (with whatever the existing tune is), could you simply by an SCT (or other programmer) and upload the existing tune?

Thinking it would be best to take the car to a tuner and get it checked out, just wasn't sure how complicated things get when the car doesn't come with the hand held that was used to tune it?

I think your idea of taking it to, or talking to a tuner is a good one. Just out of curiosity, what kind of car is it?

Get a Dealer to program it, make sure you bring both keys

Dealer can usually install the factory tune back into the car, problem is, many times a tuned car will not run or will run very poorly when returned to stock, but tuned for mods.

The easy way is to buy a SCTx4 programmer and have it retuned. Speak with the tuner and tell him what your looking for in a tune.

Spoke to DaSilva Racing this morning and was told there is a good chance the car would not pass emissions, especially if the tune was done early on in the cars life. There may be OBD2 monitors that have been shut off that will now affect the car passing current emissions. Anyways, if I decide to pull the trigger on the car, it will have to make a trip to a tuner just to make sure it's properly tuned and able to pass the E-test when it comes time.

Thanks again for everyone's input.
