We were on the road in the wife’s black Grand Cherokee from 11-3am on Saturday night, so there were many bug casualties during that time. Didn’t have a chance to clean it until tonight, and boy, that was a job.
I saw my uncle yesterday, he’s an old bmw guy, who also always has a Harley, he told me the best thing to use was a wet dryer sheet, so I tried it, worked okay but there was a ton of residue still, ended up using a bunch of quick detailer and got probably 98% of it off, but is there a better way?

Clay bar.
+1 on above then polish n wax the crap outta the paint for the next go round, makes clean up a ton easier.

Car was waxed when we bought it, clay bar seems like a ton of work afte every good highway ride, but I guess if thats what I gotta do, that’s what I gotta do.
Thx.

You use it before a trip, or you use that as a cleaner?

To clean them off, just spray the foam cleaner on and let it sit for 10-15 seconds, I use a micro fiber cloth to wipe it off and I've been using this stuff for years.

Just a FYI, a by-product of bug guts is shellac. Yes the same shellac that you would use on a wood coffee table. NASTY crap. Just make sure you loosen and dissolve any bug splatter with a cleaner or solvent before you go to the next step of wiping. The acids in the bugs will eat into the paint along with that shellac sticking to the surface. Griots, CarPro, Blackfire all make a great product to properly remove all of the above. I personally have not tried the Invisible Glass method on paint. Pinnacle and McKee's makes a dedicated bug and tar sponge that is designed for painted surfaces without harming the clear coat but it is to be used in a wash bucket with your favorite soap.

Turtle Wax Bug & Tar remover for me after the Lincoln saw some up north time....spray it on, let sit for a minute or two and then used a microfiber mitt to remove the bug guts. Required some elbow grease, but it cleaned up nice.

Yup, this is what I use. Works decent with some elbow grease, as said above.

I actually gave Invisible Glass a try a few times recently to see if it the bugs came off and indeed they did. Traditionally I would just go and power wash the car down as soon as I get back from a trip but with the recent back issue I was not able to do it right away.

Another surprising option is WD40, the petroleum breaks down the bugs and helps with removal. If I am out of Invisible Glass this is my next go to.
Always find it interesting how many things WD40 does well all the while not so great as a lubricant / penetrating.

I soak a couple microfibre towels in my wash soap, blast the front end with my power washer and foam gun, then leave the soapy microfibres on the bumper while I wash the rest of the car. By the time I get to doing the front bumper the bugs/tar have softened so much it usually comes off without much scrubbing. That and keeping a good coat of wax on the front bumper does the trick.

I’ve been using turtle wax bug and tar remover as I wash the car, it seems to work, but this bug sponge looks like it might do the trick. I admit I was worried it would scratch my black finish, but the description specifically says it won’t scratch black paint, lol.

It gets soft when you put it in water, if you used it dry it may scratch but it's pretty neat and works very well
