The father of a three-year-old boy who died after he was found unresponsive in a hot car in Burlington last week has been charged.
On May 23 at 5:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to the parking lot of the Crossroads Centre at 1295 North Service Road in Burlington by a “hysterical male” who told dispatchers a toddler was not breathing.
The boy had been removed from a vehicle and car seat by the time emergency crews arrived at the scene.

Police are seen at a parking lot in Burlington where a toddler was found in a vehicle without vital signs Wednesday May 24, 2018.

Paramedics attempted to revive the boy at the scene but were not successful.
He was later pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed the boy died from hyperthermia brought on by prolonged exposure to high heat.
The temperature in Burlington that day was more than 26 C.
Investigators then towed the vehicle the boy was pulled from, a Ford Escape SUV, to a police lot for inspection.
The boy’s father – identified by police on Wednesday as 37-year-old Shaun Pennell – was arrested and charged.
He faces one count of criminal negligence causing death and one count of failing to provide the necessaries of life.
He was released from custody on a promise to appear and is next scheduled to appear in court in Milton on June 27.

I've seen a lot of cases of dogs left in hot cars already across North America and it's not even June yet so not surprised by this - sad but there are a lot of stupid people out there (it's 20 fucking 18 and humans should know better). It's sad that no one saw the child sooner to break the windows.

so sad that another innocent life lost for sheer carelessness and outright stupidity. Sorry, no matter what happened here..the parent is 100% responsible for this death. May that boy Rest in peace. People...if your mind is not 100% there, leave your kids and pets at home with someone. Period.

I don’t know this man, I don’t know what he’s like or what his IQ is, but I can only assume that this was a horrible mistake, one that he is going to have to live with the rest of his life. I can’t imagine the guilt he must be feeling. Both charges are appropriate, but do you really need both? He didn’t intentionally do something to cause the death. He unintentionally didn’t do anything that caused the death. Tragic.
