Hit 120 km/hr winds in my area, had a load of steel siding at side of my garage (new , doing a reno). I couldnt keep it down, blew all the balasts off. 30 sheets at 20 feet each, I actually was fearing my well being and my neighbours safety from it. Said frigg it, drove the loader on to it. Damaging the whole shipment but kept everyone safe and got me out of harms way fast. Manufacture will get a ear full of how they packed the stuff, but still, could be worst.

Just got back from a walk around the neighbourhood. Tons of houses missing shingles. Bunch of stop signs and street signs also snapped off. Fences down. A surprising amount of damage around here.

Most of us on our street had minor roof damage. We were lucky to have it repaired yesterday before rain hit.
My elderly neighbor was not so lucky having lost about two bundles worth off backside of her house. I was out first thing in the am to buy enough tarps to cover in case of rain. Fortunately, buddy I'd called night before to go up on my garage roof to look over (can't see entire roof from the ground) was good enough to check mine then stay to fix her up.

My dad was able to get a roofing company yesterday to tarp off the front portion of his roof for the time being, missing a whole section. I can't believe the amount of roof damage in my area. I would say at least 40% of the homes were affected. From missing a couple of shingles to missing sections. I was able to fix my fallen chimney mounted tv antenna, unbelievable the wind force to crack a brick in half and be pulled out of the joints with the fasteners still attached to the "J" mount. My neighbour couldn't get a hold of anyone to deal with his fallen 25ft spruce tree. He's very lucky it landed 6" from his front porch.
For shiats n giggles, when buying shingles asked what co's are charging for roof repairs, hope what he quoted per bundle was not accurate. While everyone needs to make a living, no excuse for taking advantage of peeps in need.

Picked up my shingles from neighbors yard ( YUP found all of them) went up on the roof , hammer in hand, wet stick and some roofing nails, Perfect NO, but save my ceiling from getting wet, got it done just before the rain !

I was 5 stories up on a roof when it rolled through, that's a fun time.
here's a google street view of my house...mine's the one with the nice flowers and the GTI in the driveway

have a look in the front yard on the McMansion build next door....see that massive 75ft Maple?
well....about 30-40% of it is currently stretched across both of our properties
it clipped my house....got a bit of the eavestrough....and scratched up the siding on the front
it did a number on the bushes in front of my house....so I'm probably gonna have to ripp everything out and redo it
and I still don't have power
my steel roof is fine....and worth every penny fwiw
it sucks but we really got off lucky....it basically brushed the house instead of crashing down on it
at least the weather was nice....I basically spent the entire weekend out on the deck in the backyard
I have pics on the wife's ipad....once we get power back I'll post them up

Man oh man, talk about dodging a bullet. Hope power is back soon.
^^^^ the way I'm looking at it.....I don't have to worry about the massive maple tree next door falling down during a storm....because it just did

Anyone with older homes I'd recommend having your chimney stack looked at, the tuckpointing on the bricks are pretty prone to failure. Couple that with these strong winds and you may end up with a load of bricks where it shouldn't be.
well.....Toronto Hydro showed up at 4am this morning and had our power back on by 5am
got all the people lined up for quotes....and an adjuster is supposed to be contacting me at some point this week
now if the fucking city could get their act together and get that fucking tree off my lawn then I'll have some level of sanity back in my melon

My phone is ringing off the hook with people asking us to come repair their fences. Some are DEMANDING we come out right away with a repair crew and do it TODAY!!. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. its against the law to dig without having utility stakeouts done, which take a week to 10 days. Some people are just so impatient! IF you intentionally dig without a stakeout it's a $5000 fine. If they can't wait then they have to hire someone else.

that would take me the better part of an entire day....and I wouldn't be able to move the huge pieces

We will see more and more extreme weather with climate change.
Metal roof is a good investment so is clearing old trees and things like a back sewage box thingy... forgot the name... generator and some diesel would be good too...

back water valve is what it's called...check with your municipality because they might offer a rebate for you to put one in
I had mine done in 2014....I think I shelled out just under $2300.....and I was shocked when the city mailed me a cheque for $2200
