So the season has started. My only comment so far, the "halos" look dumb.

Yes they certainly do. But I'm all for them if they can save a life or prevent a serious injury. Those people are paid to drive well, not die.

Agreed, but why not just put a full clear canopy like some of the top fuel dragsters run. I know that would end the concept of an open cockpit, but they would probably look better and give the aerodynamic engineers something to play with.

I'm certainly no structural engineer, but maybe the halo has more supportive strength than a canopy would? Not sure ...
