I am looking to trade my 2015 Mustang GT ragtop in for a 2018 GT, again a convertible.
However, one of the dealers out there, Summit Ford, is advertising a new 17 Shelby GT350 at a very fair price. The difference is probably around $12,000 or so.

A couple of thoughts: you can't get a Shelby convertible, but I can live with a hardtop, i suppose.

The main financial attraction is that the resale value is probably a lot higher over 3 or 4 years. However, this has to be a daily driver, so mileage will accumulate much quicker (I've had the 2015 since December 2015 and I've put 65000 km on it, and that after being parked for 8 months during two winters.)

I have not driven one, and if anyone here has had a GT and then the Shelby I's appreciate some sort of comparison or evaluation.

OK. Forget I asked. Last week they advertised a Shelby for $72000.00 new. That is doable. Just went to their website and the cheapest Shelby they have listed is $10,000 more than that. I could stretch, I suppose, but realistically i'm just not ready to go to an $80,000 car.

Campbell ford in Ottawa has a bunch of GT350's for 70,000-72000.

A. you actually want a convertible
B. you are not going to take the GT350 to the track

and on top of that it's a small fortune more expensive.

don't buy a car, least these kinds of cars for resale...buy it cause you want to drive it...if you prefer a vert, then question answered in my opinion, personally yeah, I'd go for the Shelby, but we most likely want the car for different reasons and in my case, if I wanted a coupe, there's no way I'd settle for a vert, no matter how good the deal was...

As a DD I think a GT 5.0 is a better answer for many reasons, the main one being the available torque at lower rpms compared to the 5.2 Voodoo in the GT350.

Just for those interested, last week when I was at discovery ford in Burlington they had at least 3 different gt350s priced at $69k I think they may have had 5 total

Resale value for all these new monster machines will not be as high as most think. Next years car is always going to be better. When the new GT 500 comes out my buddy is selling or trading in his Shelby GT350. I'm sure a lot of other Shelby owners will do the same. The value of the Gt350 will come down significantly . Just like the Hellcat wide body and The Demon has done to the regular Hellcat. My other buddy has a 2016 Camaro ss. He wants the 1lE now. He paid 56k for it and the dealer offered 40k for it on trade. Its not even a year old. IMO buy what you want and drive or don't drive it. Its YOUR car do what makes you happy. All these so called collector cars don't appeal to the new generation. Once we are gone the car collector hobby will shrink to much less than half of what it is today IMO.We buy the cars we grow up with or grew up with. Another think to consider is if you are financing the car at all. Because the interest rate on the 2018 GT is 0% for 5 years or .99 for 6.


The Shelby's is 7% no matter how long or short of a term.
