Accidents like the one on the 400 last week happen all over and certainly have the attention of law makers. Who knows, maybe it'll be here sooner than later.

Just go to Disney, we were suppose to have jet cars that could fly us to our destination, this article though is the start of the death bell for the gas powered automobile, along with the European countries that are implementing electric only for sale after 2030.

Think it will be a lot longer then the article author suggests. Still a long way to go in making this type of technology work to the point that it's safe and effective and the impact on the economy/job market can't be underestimated either.

It's probably headed that way eventually. The bigger issue will be making people give up their cars.
In a voted democracy the party against this will probably continue to win for a long time.
Unless posterity gets brainwashed enough to see this being a good idea. Glad I wont be around to see it.

It comes down to Insurance rates.
If self driving cars have an accident rate of less than 1% (99% of accidents are human error) than what do you think the rate will be for a human?
My guess is no one will be able to afford it.
Another way to look at it is , you have 2 cars at the same price, one you have to pay insurance & not on the other

You will see the advent of Semi-autonomous first I feel (Tesla AutoPilot et all) before there's a light switch over to fully autonomous.

As soon as everyone realizes that autonomous and semi autonomous cars will avoid hitting you all the time it will be mayhem on the roads. Imagine not having to worry about cutting off or even swerving into a self driving car. Shoulder check? Why? just turn the wheel. Need to pull out into heavy traffic.. No problem just do it. Who cares whats coming it will stop anyway. Just feel bad for anyone behind a self driving car.
