Suspected drag racer killed in fiery crash involving possible drunken driver on I-75 in Troy
Wish they would stop sensationalizing the headline with unknown facts.
Don't know that the RX7 was drag racing.
Don't know that the F150 was intoxicated.
Do know that a car was stopped in the middle of a highway and rear-ended by another vehicle.

This is extremely upsetting as like Hemi said, it could have happened to us. As we were there. My brother and I actually saw the ambulance and fire trucks rushing to the scene. A few of thee board members were also just hanging with this couple just moments before it happened. Truly a devastating end to what should have been just a fun weekend.
Very sad part is that they were to be married sept 9 from what I understand. Sad.

Well that made me freaked out for a minute because my buddy drives that exact car and haven't heard from him in a couple days....not him thankfully but RIP to the rotary passenger.
Also this story sets the world record for use of "might" in a short span. Jesus christ, fucking reaching much, as if it somehow balances out the drink driving and makes it ok. Also ya lets release the names of the deceased and the injured driver because Canadian and who cares, but not the drunk yank in the truck. Fuck this is why I hate everything.

Looks like news car had a cowl hood, Jaz style racing buckets. Color on fenders in news pics looks similar, I'd day theres a good chance it is.

based on his instagram page...yup..that looks like the RX-7.
A 27-year-old Ontario woman who was set to get married this month was killed in a collision allegedly involving drunk driving.
Innisfil resident Cassandra Hunter was in Troy, Michigan with her fiancé when the fatal collision took place. Police said she and the man were in a Mazda heading south on the I-75 highway, when they and another vehicle slowed down to about 10 miles per hour in an area where 70 was the speed limit, said officers.
The two cars that had slowed down were side by side and police told NEWSTALK1010 they believe they may have been getting ready to race.

However, as the cars slowed, a Ford F-150 still going at full speed hit the Mazda and sent it flying into the guardrail where it caught fire. A source told NEWSTALK 1010 that Hunter’s fiancé was the driver.
While both were wearing seatbelts, the car wasn’t equipped with airbags.
The 29-year-old Innisfil man and Hunter were taken to hospital where the woman was later pronounced dead. The driver remains in serious condition.
The driver of the Ford truck was treated on scene and was later arrested by Troy officers. Police said they suspected the man was driving drunk.

The charges are now pending, according to officers.
Hunter and her fiancé were in Michigan for a classic car event, the Woodward Dream Cruise, a source told NEWSTALK 1010.

I was with them about 40 minutes before that happened, I wasn't with them when that happened.
I heard immediately by txt, by 7am I was at the Hospital when it became clear it was grave.
The car was an LS Turbo build. Joe and Cassandra had been going to woodward for years, I only met them last year and we hung with them this year too.
The media coverage is disappointing to say the least, but this tragedy is just beyond anything.
The families need all our support at this difficult time.

I can't imagine what they are going through. Wedding plans changed to funeral plans.
And yes, ugh the media
While both were wearing seatbelts, the car wasn’t equipped with airbags.
What relevant and useful information is that? The use of the word 'while' in that sentence implies that airbags would have made a difference. Remove that word and it becomes factual. "Both were wearing seatbelts. The RX7 of that era was not equipped with airbags."
Being factual also removes any insinuation that since this was a 'drag-racer' that he must of removed the car's safety systems, like airbags.

So there's this:
Sgt. Meghan Broderick Lehman of Troy police said there's no evidence the Mazda was set to be involved in a drag race just before the fatal crash.
“We think it's a lot of speculation because the Dream Cruise car show was going on, so there is a lot of drag racing that happened in the area,” she said.
“We do believe, and we've investigating this, that the two – the vehicle that Miss Hunter was in slowed down on the freeway, we don't know how slow and there was another vehicle next to that,” Lehman said.
“We think they might have been talking to each other because they knew each other and not drag racing. They were going slow, we don't know how slow,” she said.
