It looks like Workhorse (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/workhorse/) has a contender in the electric truck game. The Canadian arm of a company called Havelaar unveiled (http://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/havelaar-canada-unveils-all-electric-pickup-truck-the-bison-625288204.html) its Bison (http://www.havelaarcanada.com/bison/) battery electric pickup at the EVVE Conference in Ontario this week.

Launched in partnership with the University of Toronto, the Havelaar Bison features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain that is designed to withstand Canada's (http://www.autoblog.com/category/canada/) cold weather and rough terrain. It uses an electronic vehicle dynamics management system, and is engineered to tackle steep off-road grades under a full load. It's built upon a carbon fiber-reinforced steel space frame, and Havelaar promises "class-leading" torsional stiffness.

Pictures from the unveiling give a better look at the Bison:<twitterwidget class="twitter-tweet twitter-tweet-rendered" id="twitter-widget-0" data-tweet-id="869563824617250818" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: &quot;Helvetica Neue&quot;, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; position: static; visibility: visible; display: block; transform: rotate(0deg); max-width: 100%; width: 500px; min-width: 220px; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;"><article class="MediaCard MediaCard--mediaForward customisable-border" data-scribe="component:card" dir="ltr">https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DBFPp0UXoAEx75v.jpg:small (https://twitter.com/SigElectric/status/869563824617250818/photo/1)https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DBFPrOJWAAILdUE.jpg:small (https://twitter.com/SigElectric/status/869563824617250818/photo/1)

The Bison's battery pack offers a driving range of 186 miles on a single charge. It provides 46 cubic feet of exterior cargo space, with another 18 cubic feet of lockable storage. Inside the cabin is a digital instrument panel, as well as a large, central touchscreen display reminiscent of that in a Tesla (http://www.autoblog.com/tesla/). Other details are still scarce, including price and production intent.

Workhorse group recently unveiled its W-15 (http://www.autoblog.com/2017/05/03/workhorse-w-15-revealed-phev-pickup-with-80-mile-range/) range-extended electric pickup for fleets, and is exploring (http://www.autoblog.com/2017/05/23/workhorse-consumer-version-w-15-plug-in-hybrid-pickup/) offering a consumer version as well. Tesla also has plans to produce an electric pickup in 18 to 24 months, according to a tweet (http://www.autoblog.com/2017/04/14/tesla-stock-jumps-as-elon-musk-teases-semi-pickup/) from CEO Elon Musk (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/elon+musk/).

The front grill bothers me otherwise it looks cool. Somewhat of a mix between a ram and f150

It's on display up here in Markham (Warden and 7).
Neat idea, probably has gobs of torque, but carbon fibre on a truck?

Wonder what the range drops to when you use it like a pickup though.. You know, with a ton of crap in the box or a 5000 lb trailer behind it.

Carbon fiber re-enforced frame... Not surprising since they're prolly trying to keep it light to work the batteries less and keep the range realistic. Carbon fiber will become more and more common on regular passenger vehicles as the costs come down and advances are made in the way it's produced.

To be fair what percentage of pickups are actually used as pickups. I can see this being useful for a select group who need space for bulk but not weight.

With hydro government by up the way it is I just can't see electric being an option.
I've heard that the Tessa's get about half their rating when it gets cold. Not sure if that's true but if it is add that to your hydro mess and a lot will have to change before I invest in one.
