Crews are attempting to rescue a woman who climbed up a crane in the city’s downtown core and got stuck.
Toronto police say they were called to the area of Church and Wellesley streets shortly before 4 a.m. for reports of a woman trapped on crane.
Duty Insp. Colin Greenaway told reporters at the scene that it appears the woman climbed up to the very top of the boom of the crane and then lowered herself down onto a block on the crane's hook.
The block where the woman is sitting measures about two feet long and six inches wide, Greenaway added.
"That person now has been up there close to two hours now and it is very cold up there. We have been in communication with them. We have the Emergency Task Force and Toronto Fire doing a great job up there right now. They are in communication with her," Greenaway said.
"They are devising a plan to either lower a harness or lower a person with a harness in order to secure her and bring her down in a safe manner."
Police say they do not known why the woman decided to climb up the crane.
"It is very complex. It is very dangerous for all the rescue workers as well as the person that is up there," Greenaway added.
"Moving the crane right now is not really an option for us."
Paramedics told CP24 Wednesday they are currently on scene as a precaution.
Roads are closed in the area as the rescue operation continues.

It happens here and the local radio was talking about how she must have un treated mental issues and and needs help. Seriously WTF. Why does everything anyone does anymore always end up having to be mental health issues?
