The date has been confirmed, and we are set to hit the track on May 11 (see Club Events for complete details). If you have never been to a track day event, now is the time to book the day off and sign up. You will never believe how much fun it is until you try it. There will be sessions for both beginners and experienced drivers so if you are new to this you won't be alone. If you and your ride are in good, sound mechanical condition then you'll have nothing to worry about. If you have any questions, this is the thread to ask them in. Personally I am sooooo looking forward to this day as it will be the first track day with the new and improved Ol Paint.

See you at the track.

Really hoping to make it this year.

Most likely renting a trailer... I've never loaded a car on a trailer so I got some learnin to do.

Track day guidelines..............Everything below is to help keep you and everyone else safe.

1. The first and most important rule for the lapping sessions is to remember these are driving sessions - not a race! There are no positions and no prize money or trophies. If you are driving erratic, competitively, or in violation of the rules and procedures, you will be asked to leave with no refund.

2. Track will not provide any official lap times during lapping sessions.

3. There shall be no contact between cars at any time.

4. Do not stop unless disabled on track.

5. Do not tailgate another car.

6. Do not group together on the track.

7. Do not block faster cars that are closing on you.

8. Watch your mirrors, as you must signal faster cars by you.

9. If you suspect serious mechanical problems while on the track, pull off the track slowly and await assistance. If you can continue, do so slowly and return to the pit area. Get off the line and use hand signals and flashers to indicate that you have a problem while returning to the pits.

10. If it starts to rain, slow down to a speed at which you know you can drive safely in the wet. The sessions will continue in the rain unless the track becomes unsafe to do so.

11. If you spin, run off track, or make contact with another car, you must report to the pits prior to continuing the session.

12. Windows all up or all down. Verts (cage or not) must run with top up and properly secured.

13. Helmets optional for hard-top vehicles, mandatory for soft-tops (driver and passenger). Strongly suggested for all vehicles.

14. Passing zones, front and back straights and only after being clearly signaled by the vehicle in front.
No signal = no pass...........no exceptions. No passing anywhere else, yes even if the vehicle in front signals you to do so.

15. When being passed, lift off the throttle, do not turn it into a drag race to the corner

16. Flagman controls all actions on the track via flags. As your coming into the last corner, give a quick glance his way. If black flagged / called in, please report directly to the flag man to discuss (either problem with your driving or perhaps issue with your car). Should you not see the flag with enough time to safely slow down and exit the track, come off on the next one paying special attention to both your car and your driving.

Notes.

~When coming off the track with hot brakes, do not use your parking brake, leave vehicle in gear. Hot pads can and will stick to your rotors

~Should you be black flagged, don't panic. Come in and see the flagman for further instructions.

~Should a vehicle crash or otherwise become disabled, do not run onto the track under any circumstances.

~If your brake pedal is getting soft, safely come off the track and allow them to cool. Only go back on when / if your brakes feel and work as they should.

~If you have, bring a torque wrench to check wheel nuts.

~When exiting the track, signal your intentions either with a hand signal or signal light on your vehicle

~Do not enter the track unless directed to do so via the flagman

~Cars will be divided into two groups. Rookies / Experienced. Flagman will display a flag to indicate which group is out. Please pay attention, do not go out with both groups.

~After each session, good idea to take a look under the hood / under your vehicle for any fluid leaks

~If your in among a group that is clearly faster than you and it's making you uncomfortable, cycle off the track and head over to the flag man, return to the track once the groups passed.

~If your in the experienced group and your finding the pace too fast, you might want to drop down to the rookie group.

~While at least some rookies will be tempted to move up to the faster group, first time out should be about hitting your marks, logging laps and getting experience.

~Remove all loose items from your vehicle including from console, glove box, floor, above your visor (remote door openers or similar). Same for inside the trunk, don't want any 1/4 panel dents from the inside. Remove or fully secure spare tire and jacking equipment.

~No cameras outside your vehicle unless secured to a permanent mount. Inside vehicle must also be either mounted or secured to passengers hand via wrist strap or similar.

~At no time should yours or your passengers hands or arms be out the window.

~No drones permitted, pitts or race track

~Helmets must be worn properly and secured via mfg's strap.

~Have a question, lots of experienced peeps there. Don't be shy about walking up and asking someone. Only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

~Yes we will be doing a parade lap or two for the rookie class. Track looks totally different from the drivers seat, will help you get your bearings.

~Let's all be safe and have fun.

Many thanks to Joe and everyone at DaSilva Racing for organizing this event.............as per the norm, you guys rock!!

Brake Fluid: what to get? and where to get it? and how much to flush the entire system?

G-ForceJunkie
05-03-2017, 04:21 PM
I know DaSilva stocked Motul RBF600 for a while, not sure if they still do. I resorted to buying online this year, because I couldn't find any local (to me) places that carry it. Always heard good things about ATE TYP200 or Superblue, but never used it.

For a full system flush I usually buy 1.5L, but use less than 1L.

ZR
05-03-2017, 05:52 PM
SuperBlue has been tough to find for a couple years now because of govt ban (color), suggest ATE TYP200

From the other thread - re weather concerns:

For those of you who have never driven on a track in anger in the rain, its an experience NOT to be missed. Way easier on the car/tires/brakes, and you really find much higher traction limits than you suspect could be possible. Car control skills will be honed much more, the pucker factor is a no charge bonus, and at least it's more consistent than a cold track with hidden and inconsistent variations. Well worth the misery of being cold and damp IMO.

Sadly we're in Philly for the week, so I can't even rent a new SS Camaro to blow out the cobwebs and make Don et al use their blinker every couple of laps :)

Driven in rain, mosport big track, shanonville and Silverstone. New car, sport cup 2's = no rain runs for me. Not worth it. Plus top down means car fills up with water .

Lol, break one transmission, and the legend of shortened track days is born. Too bad you don't have any blinker vids bud. :)

Driving in the rain, not sliding one lap, and yes - slow tracks, like Shannonville, DDT and TMP are perfect for learning this skill. I'm talking about a focused, careful intent to learn how to drive on a wet track. Don't need a dedicated car nor rain tires.
Have done half a dozen full days in the rain, one full day on full slicks on a F2000 turbo in the rain. Nothing compares and nothing will give you better lessons in car control and breakaway/reeling it back in.

Since there is no instructors like at Mosport, and also no blind corners, yeah the parade lap is a great idea. Drive to the cones and you'll figure out the line. Take it easy, and gradually up your speed as you figure out the braking points. It's a nice little track to learn on.
