I have a 2013 Jetta TDI 45 mpg and 300 ft lb of torque
considering turning it in
What should I get
likes
>250 ft lb torque
AWD or 4WD
great mileage
heated steering wheel
hatch or utility to carry stuff like my bike

It is hard to beat the Jetta for the $$$$$$

I just picked up a 2017 Q50S, 3l twin turbo, awd and I can stuff my track bike or road bike in the back seat fully assembled or in the trunk with the wheels off

Has a heated steering wheel as well

Keep the Jetta.
My wife just got a Cherokee Trailhawk, quite a bit bigger and heavier than the Jetta, but she likes to be up high, plus we carry the kids in it, she loves it but the mileage from the 3.2 isn't great.
If you're looking for a similar ride to the Jetta, I've always liked the Mazda 3.

I would say Golf Sportwagen, Audi A4 or the Q50S (300hp).

Which one do you have Gabe?

Get a '15 TDI since there is now an approved fix with huge extra warranty. If it were me I'd probably do that. My original plan was to turn in my 12 and get a 15 but since I'm out of the buyback I'll just carry on like nothing happened, happily getting 5.5 l/100km

I've been toying with the idea of dumping the Olds in favour of a TDI.

I drive a 3L AWD ford fusion. Very solid 3800 lbs .Gets 30 mpg and I drive hard has 240hp. Anyway new fusion has a 2.7L AWD twin turbo 325hp...a nice family car? Engine used in F150 pick up.

ever tried driving a 4x4 full size pickup? Nothing comes close for size and amenities for the money, high up, safe and can last ya 10 yrs with tires and brakes.
On my third one, over half a million km across the three F150s and cant see driving a car again.
Mileage isnt that bad either, and i know what I d rather be inside if I was gonna participate in a wreck/crash.

having gone from an 07 VW Rabbit 2dr....to a 2016 GTI 2dr as a daily driver....so over 10 years now with virtually the same type of car....gotta say the little VW hatchbacks are great daily driver/grocery getters

AWD is there with the R model

won't get mileage like the TDI....but they go like stink and handle like a little go-kart....and when you need to haul something....lift the hatch, pop the rear seat down and have at it

picked up a jewelry armoir for my wife at Pier One on xmas eve....it's a huge standalone jewelry box....the thing was packaged up in a box nearly 6ft tall, 2.5 ft deep and 2.5 ft wide...weighed about 100lbs......got it in the back of the GTI no problem....along with 2 cases of beer

having the little hatch for runs to the garden centre in the spring and summer are a dream.....18 bags of cedar mulch....no problem

getting a bicycle in and out of the car would be a total breeze

Friend that I bought the 07 Mustang from now has a Golf R as a DD instead of having a summer only car and a less exciting DD. He absolutely loves it, the car is a total hoot in the snow with a good set of winter boots on it.

Mother inlaw has a Subaru forester they bought new in 2010. Never a problem with close to 200k on it.
All wheel drive, good fuel economy, power is meh Ok. Good little car if you want a car.

My self love having a truck with a cap.
Mega cargo space, towing, 4x4, comfort, safety. But 14L/ 100km instead of the 5.5 your getting.

All Wheel Drive. ..it is awesome in winter and useful getting in out cottage roads
Once tried it you can't go back. Put pedal down and go while others 2 wheels are spinning
And going no where ...especially nice when getting up to speed in winter while merging
With traffic...all vehicles more less stop the same

All Wheel Drive is definitely awesome in all conditions. I have owned 3 thus far. 1 Subaru, 1 Audi and recently my Infiniti. All three were great vehicles in their own respect. I do regret recently getting rid of my Q50S especially with this crappy weather and rising gas prices. I too need to rethink my daily driver as I have an opportunity for a new position at a new firm out in the west end of the city and with heavy traffic the SRT 392 will not be fun to drive in stop and go traffic. My wife and I are quite unhappy with the fuel consumption of this SRT. My old Mustang was better than this car so up it goes for sale in the spring time. Need to take care of the Mrs and my wallet. Happy wife, happy life as they say.

Picture for old times sake of my Q50S

Guy across the street from me has ^^^ one of these too, I think they are great looking cars, not sure the cost or overall performance, but If you are changing cars again, take a look at a Lexus.

I bought my wife the 2015 IS250 F Sport, we've had it just over two years, now has 38K on the clock and 5K I just put on it this last week I took it to Florida and back 5400kms in less than four days. The car took it like a champ, never missed a beat, rode great and I realized why I bought it. averaged 9.2L/100KM on the trip, usually gets around 12 in the city, exactly what my old BMW would get.

I drive a 2016 F150 as my daily and I won't change that, but Lexus has the upscale feel and performance without the BMW/Mercedes price tag. Car takes regular 87 octane and uses Toyota parts for brakes etc.

After this, I was considering the Hellcat Jeep, but it will have a hefty price tag and will suck gas, so we'll see. Another IS or stepping up to the GS is an option too.

still like the keep it idea
would rathe avoid the fix
any thoughts on trying to determine the real ability to emission test the OEM stock car
thinking of writing to the Ministry for their position

Car will pass any current emission test in Ontario.

Real way to test it is run it on a dyno

luv the dyno idea
even if car loses 10% torque and mileage
if they give $5500 that buys a lot of fuel
for $1000 to $2000 think you can receipt engine and DSG tranny to make more torque

Lexus is very close to BMW/Mercedes as far as price, they are direct competitors, Lexus is not a step down from them. The IS isn't based on any Toyota as far as I know, unless maybe a model in Japan, so not sure how they would use Toyota brakes, the only ones that would may be the older es, since they're a Lexus Camry. We actually had a 2014 in for service a few months back and the brakes were massive, not really off-the-shelf Toyota stuff, although still likely cheaper than the Germans, but not by much.
